Breaking the Chain of Addiction
Galatians 5:1 (GNT)
“Freedom is what we have — Christ has set us free! Stand, then, as free people, and do not allow yourselves to become slaves again.”
Often we think of addiction as a reference to drugs and alcohol, but there are Bible verses about addiction that can be applied to anything that enslaves us, or holds us back in life.
Whether it is drugs, alcohol, illicit sex, pornography, masturbation, gambling, gluttony, excessive shopping, or anything else, the Bible can provide us with insight and support to make our lives better.
Colossians 3:5 tells us “You must put to death, then, the earthly desires at work in you, such as sexual immorality, indecency, lust, evil passions, and greed for greed is a form of idolatry”.
Proverbs 20:1 say’s; “Drinking too much makes you loud and foolish. It’s stupid to get drunk”.
Romans 12:1 also say’s; “So then, my brothers and sisters, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer”.
So beloved, anything that enslaves you causes you to be it’s servant, which hinders you from serving God and being there for the people that need you in their lives.
We are warned that those who continue in that way of life will NOT enter into the Kingdom of God.
Now, I’m not saying that you will not be tempted, but with any temptations, God will always provide us with a way to escape.
It is also the responsibility of all Christians not to do anything that might cause another Christian who has a problem with addiction to stumble.
Let’s continually ask God for help to break free from addictions holding us back.
We pray that every chain of addiction upon each and every of our lives shall be broken by the blood of Jesus!
Isaiah 10:27 – It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
